Zeek Rewards Scam Review - Can It Be Actually Way too Good To ...

This is the business that is receiving a large amount of recognition nowadays. There is a lot of hoopla all over the net but can it be accurate, is the business the real thing or could they be accurate when they say Zeek Rewards Scam? I was approached a few months ago by a friend who I value very much about this business referred to as Zeek Rewards. This individual attempted to tell me just what the business was about and I have to say, this thing sounded far too good to be true, nevertheless like I said this was from a close friend which I respect, a friend who is a financial adviser, I believe in him. But, even in business I need to perform my own homework and I spent the next a couple of months looking at this company inside and out. And this is precisely what I uncovered.

The Company - Is Zeek Rewards Scam Accurate?

Well, we must initially take a close look at the business. Zeek Rewards is actually not a business instead the marketing arm of a business referred to as Zeekler in which promotes a web based shopping service along with an auction site where customers can obtain items for 60 - 99% off of list prices. Both Zeek Rewards and Zeekler are owned by the parent corporation which has been around for Fifteen years called Rex Venture Group LLC. The company head office are located in Lexington, North Carolina. The organization pays its affiliate marketers from a retail "Profit Pool" which is the company's daily net profit from product sales. The business puts into the pool 50% of the net daily profits each day. Then they disperse them to all affiliates based upon a point system earned to date by each and every affiliate.

All It Requires Is A Few Minutes Per Day - How Can Zeek Rewards Scam Not Be Accurate?

I'm sure this seems insane that is precisely what I was thinking when my buddy said to me, "all you need to do is take A few minutes a day and place a totally free ad marketing the business you then get paid for accomplishing that"! It sounds far too simple. Thus, I did a little investigating and I talked to a number of other folks I know in the industry and I kept receiving the same reply, it is actually all you need to do. You can earn more money much faster by sharing with other people concerning this program however you don't need to do that. Should you don't like to sponsor other people, a person don't need to. You actually can build a big business with time by merely placing an ad, free of charge each day.

OK, Show Me The Dollars!!!

My primary concern as is with a lot of Multi-level Marketing Companies I check out, where's the cash going to originate from to pay the affiliates? Is this merely another "if you get in early you make money but if you get at the end, you don't"? This really is absolutely nothing like that. Let's look at the auction aspect of the company and let's use the penny auction example. Let's say the company has a big screen Television that sells for $1000. The bidding for that Television set starts at $0 then when somebody bids the purchase price rises a cent. Also any time someone bids a clock goes to Something like 20 seconds and starts counting down to 0. Just before it reaches Zero, someone will bid restarting the clock and raising the bid by just one cent. Now keep in mind each bid costs $1 to bid. Let's say the $1000 Television set is sold for $100. Just how many pennies is there in $100.. Yes, 10,000. Thus, 10,000 bids were made and if each bid is $1, the business takes in $10,000 for that $1,000 Television set. That's a net gain of $9,000 of which the business provides fifty percent back to the affiliate marketers, $4,500. With online auctions going on 24-7 the business earns a great deal of dollars each day and it is expanding.

So long as individuals are happy to bid on goods looking to get them for a small percentage of the list cost, this company will only skyrocket with time. As I said previously the business has been in existence for 15 years and it is debt free.

So, If Zeek Rewards Scam Isn't Accurate, Are There Other Methods To Make Money?

The corporation has a incredibly gratifying comp plan and utilizes a 2X5 Forced Matrix. With a forced matrix, you can get affiliates placed directly under you from your up-line. They also pay on compressed levels which mean that they don't calculate the non-active associates inside your matrix. The corporation as well permits top rated affiliates to participate in a Profit Sharing Pool. Over-all, the compensation package is rather solid and can be limitless to the right man or woman ready to put some extra hard work into establishing their own enterprise.

You will find 6 different ways, the matrix I described above plus Zap commissions, your own retail store, the retail profit pool, retail subscription revenue and the shopping Daisy which happens to be an app which enables shoppers locate the lowest possible cost on almost anything they are looking for on the net. It is extremely awesome and very powerful.

Is Zeek Rewards Scam True or Is This A Great Opportunity?

I've been in the Network Marketing for a very long time. I have seen a lot of companies appear and vanish, many we've been a part of. You discover with time things to look for and what to steer clear of. Initially when I first found out about Zeek Rewards I thought this is some of those hear today and gone tomorrow until I realized the parent company is a successful 15 year old corporation that is expanding extremely fast. That's a tremendous plus in my book.

I additionally know of numerous critical leaders in our industry that are now an integral part of this company and who I have profound respect for. They would not enter into anything at all short of rock solid, and this is vitally important for me. The main thing, Zeek Rewards is a very interesting and extraordinary opportunity. I see massive potential for anyone who wants to build their very own company along with a little effort can build something larger than they ever thought possible. I was so impressed with all the research I found that I have become part of this organization. My team, which i've assembled over the years with other organizations, are every bit as enthusiastic and joining Zeek Rewards as well. I am incredibly excited to be a part of this organization.

Zeek Rewards is a great company for individuals who are looking for a company that is strong, growing and easy to build upon. For more information on this subject visit Zeek Rewards Inside. For additional resources about Zeek Rewards here pre-recorded webinar called You Get Paid To Advertise a that will give you details about this opportunity.

Recent PDA Cell Phone Reviews | Internet Contents

A PDA cell phone or Smartphone offers ease of use and powerful features and capabilities for the business, or casual consumer. The PC-like functionality of PDA phones enables users to access and create email, documents, and the Internet all in one compact device. This past year has seen an explosion of innovative Smartphones from various manufactures, with distinct capabilities and operating platforms.

HTC launched a new Windows Mobile Smartphone, the HD2, which is a successor to the original HTC Touch HD. This phone features one of the largest PDA screens, measuring 4.3 inches. It is also the first Windows phone to implement a capacitive touch screen, similar to the iPhone display, which is used for fingertip control. The HD2 boasts a 5.0 megapixel camera with flash, a GPS receiver, and a standard 3.5mm headset jack.

BlackBerry also provided an update to their existing product line, updating the Bold 9000 to the new Bold2. This phone features better wireless access than the current BlackBerry, with better utilization of 3G coverage. The Bold2 switches out the familiar trackball with a Trackpad, which should be more responsive and sturdier. Like other BlackBerry phones, the Bold2 provides reliable and powerful messaging capabilities and boasts a vibrant color display.

The Samsung Moment is the company?s first Android device. The Android operating system runs on an 800 MHz processor, which makes the Moment impressively responsive. Some highlights of the phone are the exceptional call quality and gorgeous color display. For users who are invested in Google applications, the Moment allows for quick access to their Google calendar, email, and contacts.

Nokia presented a new phone, the Nokia N900, which is the first device to run Maemo, a Linux based operating system. The phone is noted for its smooth animations, easy setup, and crisp screen fonts. Another exceptional feature is the keyboard which is user friendly and less cramped than previous Nokia Smartphones.

The Motorola Droid is another cell phone which is based on the Android OS and sets the standard for other phones which utilize this operating system. The Droid is the thinnest phone with a QWERTY keyboard and the display is comparatively large at 3.7 inches. The design is markedly different from other PDAs and has an attractive angular feel. The mobile office applications are stable and highly functional, which allows users to work on files on the go. Also, the phone works well with multiple applications open at once, which is a huge benefit to heavy PDA users.

PDA cell phones are gaining more and more attention in the mobile market. Even casual cell phone users are purchasing Smartphones to help organize their busy personal and business lives.

'Brave' Wards Off Box-Office Competition

Film becomes 13th consecutive Pixar film to debut at #1.
By Ryan J. Downey

Merida in "Brave"
Photo:

There's nothing unlucky about the number 13 for Disney/Pixar. Over the weekend, "Brave" became the 13th consecutive film from the animation unit behind "Toy Story" and "Wall-E" to debut at #1. The animated archery adventure hit a box-office bull's-eye to the tune of $66.7 million, according to estimates. And cartoons dominated the weekend box office as DreamWorks' "Madagascar 3" landed at #2.

Unfortunately for Fox, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" was not so lucky. The $69 million-budget historical/ fantasy mash-up opened at #3 with just $16.5 million.

"Brave" opened stronger than last year's "Cars 2," which bears the distinction of being the only Pixar film with a "rotten" critical average on Rotten Tomatoes. While reviews for "Brave" weren't as overwhelmingly enthusiastic as those for flicks like "Toy Story 3" and "Wall-E," the studio's latest still boasts a 74 percent score on the film-review-aggregator site.

The opening numbers for "Brave" were the fifth-highest for Pixar (ninth when adjusted for ticket price inflation). "Toy Story 3" ranks at #1 in both categories, with its astonishing $110 million opening (on slightly fewer screens than "Brave," to boot) two years ago. Audiences gave "Brave" a CinemaScore of "A."

"Brave" is the first Disney/Pixar to center on a female protagonist, telling the story of a Scottish princess who bucks tradition to shape her own destiny. It was nearly the first Pixar film to be directed by a woman too. Brenda Chapman, who conceived the story, was replaced mid-production by Mark Andrews.

Box-office prognosticators were right on the money late last week when it came to "Brave," but the numbers for "Lincoln" were even lower than most of them projected. IMDb's Keith Simanton told MTV News that the Tim Burton-produced book adaptation would need to match the $23 million collected by "Zombieland" on opening weekend to be considered a success. "I'm putting it at $19 million. But it may be closer to $17 million," he predicted.

"Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted," which was #1 for two weekends in a row, took in $20.2 million in its third weekend in theaters for a domestic total of $157.6 million. "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" made a total of $180 million after it opened in 2008. The first "Madagascar" film cleared $193.5 million three years before. "Madagascar 3" is the best-reviewed of the series. "This is the rare animated property that has consistently improved on its ho-hum origins," Variety's Justin Chang wrote.

"Prometheus" grossed another $10 million for a $108.5 million total. Box-office bombs "Rock of Ages" and "That's My Boy" fell even further in their second weekends, grossing just $8 million (against a $75 million budget) and $7.9 million, respectively. "Rock of Ages" has made $28.8 million to date; "That's My Boy," $28.2 million.

In limited release, "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" collected $3.8 million in its debut. The Focus Features film starring Steve Carrell and Keira Knightley played in 1,625 locations, versus the 4,164 where "Brave" was available. The Los Angeles Times reported that the film was expected to open with at least $7 million.

Woody Allen's "To Rome With Love" made $379,371 on just five screens. That's the second-best per-screen average this year, behind "Moonrise Kingdom," which averaged $130,749 across four theaters last month. Last year, "Midnight in Paris" became Allen's highest-grossing picture ever and was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. "Paris" boasted a 93 percent Tomatometer rating, however, whereas "Rome" sat at 55 percent at press time.

Next weekend's new releases include "Family Guy" creator Seth McFarlane's live-action directorial debut, "Ted," which stars Mark Wahlberg; male stripper tale "Magic Mike," with Channing Tatum; the Chris Pine/ Elizabeth Banks dramedy "People Like Us"; and Tyler Perry's "Madea's Witness Protection Program."

Check out everything we've got on "Brave." For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com.

Lie-detector tests ordered to ferret out leaks

AP file

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, center, emerges from a closed-door meeting with the House and Senate Intelligence Committees aimed at stopping security leaks on June 7, 2012, on Capitol Hill in Washington.

By Jim Miklaszewski and Courtney Kube, NBC

U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper on Monday mandated new measures, including lie-detector tests,?to prevent and detect unauthorized leaks of sensitive national security information to reporters.

Under the new policy, effective immediately, anyone with a security clearance within the Intelligence Community will be required to report any substantive contact with members of the media and any arranged meeting or any encounter where business was discussed.?The reporting requirement does not include incidental contact ? a chance encounter at the grocery store, for instance.

The?Intelligence Community is?a coalition of 17 agencies and organizations within the executive branch.

The move is an attempt by Clapper to take the Central Intelligence Agency's strict policy regarding leaks of classified information and apply it to employees of all Intelligence Community agencies including the Defense Intelligence Agency, Department of Energy, Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, National?Reconnaissance Office and the National Security Agency.

Clapper's move comes in the wake of news reports derived from leaked information about U.S. involvement in cyberattacks on Iran and an alleged al-Qaida plot to bomb a U.S.-bound flight.

From now on, the polygraph test for anyone seeking a classified clearance for any intelligence service will include a specific question regarding contact with journalists and unauthorized leaks to the media.

In the event of a leak, anyone in the Intelligence Community who would have had access to the leaked information is subject to a polygraph test regarding that specific leak.

Anyone who fails could have their security clearance revoked and could be subject to a criminal investigation.

Anyone who refuses the polygraph would immediately have their security clearance revoked and?could be subject to additional administrative action and a criminal investigation.

These new rules do not apply to?U.S. military with security clearances not assigned to an intelligence agency,?or to White House officials or members of Congress.

Clapper said the inspector general of the Intelligence Community will conduct independent investigations to ensure that unauthorized disclosure cases suitable for administrative investigations are not closed prematurely.

"These efforts will reinforce our professional values by sending a strong message that intelligence personnel always have, and always will, hold ourselves to the highest standard of professionalism," said Clapper. "It is my sincere hope that others across the government will follow our lead. It is the right thing to do on behalf of the American people and in the interest of our national security."

Senior U.S. officials tell NBC News that in the end, these new guideline may have little practical effect, since most of the leaks traditionally come from reporters? sources who do not work directly for the intelligence community.

Two U.S. attorneys have been appointed by Attorney General Eric Holder to lead a Justice Department inquiry of the recent leaks.

Republicans have suggested the leaks were orchestrated to boost President Barack Obama's re-election bid.

3 policemen shot to death at Mexico City airport

(AP) ? Men wearing what appeared to be police uniforms opened fire in a food court at Mexico City's international airport on Monday, killing three federal policemen on an anti-drug mission as panicked witnesses dove for cover.

The slain agents had gone to the airport "to detain suspects linked to drug trafficking at Terminal 2," the federal Public Safety Department said in a statement, without specifying if the suspects also were lawmen. "Upon seeing themselves surrounded by federal police, they (the suspects) opened fire on the officers."

Two officers died at the scene and another died later of his wounds at a local hospital.

A witness said the shooters were also wearing police uniforms, and the Public Safety Department said it was investigating whether the shooters were active-duty police, former officers or impostors. Criminals in Mexico sometimes wear fake police uniforms, but officials also have repeatedly struggled to crush corruption among law enforcement agencies at the airport, which traffickers have often used as a shipment point for narcotics.

No suspects had been arrested following the shooting, which took place shortly before 9 a.m. (10 a.m. EDT; 1400 GMT).

The shootings occurred around the food court at Terminal 2, near the area where vehicles drop off passengers but well outside the internal security checkpoints where workers and passengers are screened.

Three shots rang out at first, said witness Israel Lopez, a 23-year-old Mexico City student who had gone to the airport to see off a friend. Lopez didn't see who those shots were directed at, but then the gunfire came closer.

"We were in the food court, and some policemen came in and started shooting at another policeman who was on the floor," Lopez said.

"We dove to the floor and covered ourselves with chairs," Lopez said.

Lopez said the shooters wore blue uniforms like those worn by the federal police who provide security at the airport. He said the shooters then ran to the car park area "as if they were pursuing somebody," and he lost sight of them.

The airport said in a press statement that the terminal and flights were operating normally following what it described as "a dispute in an open-access area."

Officials have said that Mexico City's airport is used by traffickers to move drugs, money and illegal migrants. Federal police said they seized 198 pounds (90 kilograms) of cocaine at the airport in 2011 and 440 pounds (200 kilograms).

Guadalupe Perez, 27, went to the airport to interview for a job when she saw the body of one of the officers on the floor. "It scared me a lot to see something like that, a body," she said.

Robert Gray, an evangelical missionary from Hart, Michigan, arrived at the airport after the shooting with his family to catch a flight.

"It's surprising to see it happening at the airport. It's one of the safest places in the city," Gray said.

Shootings at Mexican airports are rare. In 1993 Roman Catholic Cardinal Juan Posadas Ocampo was killed in an airport parking lot in central Mexico. Authorities later said his killers had apparently mistaken his car for that of a rival drug lord.

Flynn's 'Gone Girl' poised to be summer thriller

CHICAGO (AP) ? Gillian Flynn's third novel, "Gone Girl," is the perfect beach read ? boy meets girl, boy marries girl, girl goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary.

The boy is Nick, who grew up in a Mississippi River town in Missouri and became a magazine writer in New York, where he meets the blonde, beautiful and bright Amy. The mystery unfolds in dueling chapters, one from Nick's point of view, then one from Amy.

"I liked playing with the idea of marriage as a 'he said, she said' story," said Flynn, a Chicagoan and mother of a 2-year-old boy with her own equally compelling story ? girl loses job, girl becomes best-selling novelist.

"Gone Girl" entered The New York Times bestseller hardcover fiction list at No. 2 for the week of June 24 and earned a top-10 spot on Amazon's Top 100 list.

Critics love it, too. People magazine gave it four stars and Publishers Weekly called it "compulsively readable, creepily unforgettable." It is crime fiction that will make readers flip to the first page after they've finished the last page, looking for clues and hints they missed.

Flynn, 41, grew up in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of two community college professors. Her 2006 debut was the mystery "Sharp Objects" and her follow-up was 2009's "Dark Places." She said she wrote her first two books on evenings and weekends while working as a journalist.

Flynn was laid off from her job as a writer and TV critic at Entertainment Weekly after she finished "Dark Places," but before the novel came out. Losing her job allowed her the chance to turn full-time novelist. It also provided inspiration for Nick in "Gone Girl". He loses his magazine writing job, too.

"I certainly wove that experience, that sense of having something that you were going to do for the rest of your life and seeing that possibility taken away... I definitely wove that sense of unrest and nervousness into Nick's character," she said.

Even though she was finding success as a novelist, Flynn said she would have kept her magazine job if she could.

"I don't know if I had it in my mind that I would do the novel thing solo. I'm a very pragmatic Midwesterner. I liked the idea of having a day job," she said. "It took me a while, that (writing) is my day job and it's going to be OK."

Flynn's writing focuses on women ? unusual, troubled women in difficult situations, said Barbara Peters, owner of The Poisoned Pen bookstore in Scottsdale, Ariz., where Flynn recently gave a talk on "Gone Girl."

"Even though they're damaged they're all strong women and that has a lot of appeal," Peters said.

Flynn thinks the appeal comes from giving readers a sneak-peek into someone else's marriage: the tugs of war, power plays and gender roles. Flynn also was ready to write a mystery from inside a relationship after two novels that she describes as exploring "loneliness and isolation."

"I wanted to kind of play with the opposite of that, which is what happens when you choose to combine lives with someone. The good things that are possible and the bad things that are possible," Flynn said.

The book's subject matter didn't make Flynn's husband flinch, she said. "It takes a big guy if your wife comes and says, 'I'm going to poke and pry around the darkest side of marriage for my next book. Is that cool?'" Flynn said. "He didn't blink an eye. He said, 'Go for it. Don't censor yourself. Put everything down.'"

Her novel also tells the story of now: Characters are dealing with the aftermath of a recession. There are abandoned shopping malls, empty foreclosed homes and workers who have lost their jobs.

"I wanted the whole thing to feel bankrupt," Flynn said. "I wanted it to really feel like a marriage that had been hollowed out in a city that had been hollowed out and a country that was increasingly hollowed out."

The result, Peters said, is a novel that shows Flynn is more concerned with the "why" of the crime rather than the "how" of the crime.

"There's a real propulsion, the way she tell that story," Peters said. "You want to read it right through the end to see what's going on."

MALLEUS Paranorm - Opera Totale music review by Renkls

4 stars A rather beautiful orchestral suite, no lyrics, just ebbs and flows like an opera accompanied by female voices and a spiritual feeling. Quite an obscurity on here, and I suppose it's not to everyone's tastes, as the prog rock side of the album takes a while to develop, initially from simple nature sounds then through bursts of dissonance laced drums, church bells, cries, chants, trickling water, etc. It's a very varied piece. Didn't set my world on fire the first time, but with some patience, I really have come to enjoy this album a lot.

Also, as a 47 minute epic, you could do a lot worse.

Peter Baksa: Are We Addicted to Drama?

"The Tau leader practices detachment; while others are collecting. I alone have nothing; in their eyes the fool.

While they are clever and confident, I appear indifferent, drifting at sea; without a compass.
They march forward with purpose while I remain detached, delighted by distant harmonies, nourished by source."

--Lao Tzu, Tau #20. 500 BCE

While living in Beijing, China recently, I spent my days at the Lama Temple interviewing Tibetan monks for my recently-released book, Think Yourself Young. An elder monk approached me one day as I sat next to the Laughing Buddha statue. He told me a story that goes back to the time of Lao Tzu (the founder of Taoism), 400 BCE, that has stuck with me ever since.

It goes like this: A beggar stood at the gates of the temple with his hand out asking for coins from the monks that came and went. On this particular day an elder monk approached the beggar. The beggar responded by putting his hand out. The elder replied, "I have nothing to give you, however, I have a question. Have you ever looked inside the box that you have been sitting on all these weeks"? The beggar said, "No, why? It's an empty box." The elder monk suggested that the beggar take the time to look inside. He went on to suggest that should he do so, he would find it filled with gold. The story is analogous to our propensity as humans to look outside ourselves to seek happiness, fulfillment, joy, etc. I spent the first half of my life as a beggar. I was always looking for the next architectural design project, business opportunity, college degree, or sports trophy for fulfillment.

I was, like many humans, addicted to the adrenaline rush of the next life situation. Many of us are still beggars moving from one life situation or person to the next seeking the next high. Some of us fill our lives with drama and crises, fulfilling our need for emotional stimulation. I found myself attracting partners that needed to be rescued. Charging to the rescue, I would feel needed. This did not require much introspection, and I was not forced to look at myself since the constant drama and crises kept my attention focused and my awareness muted. My excuse may have been love, and my fix, the rush of the situation. My reality was mostly a hidden within a fear-based initiative -- fear because by remaining focused on others, I allowed myself to remain above and outside, always preaching reason and logic to the insane drama that would transpire as a result of another 's less-than-practical thoughts and actions. I could remain safe and untouched from any normal or healthy introspection that a balanced healthy relationship would require of me.

Some might see this as philanthropic, affording affirmation; I call it the hero effect. The reality is that I was stunting my own growth, remaining safe in my isolation with all the attention placed on the drama, and of course the other person's obvious malaise. From my vantage point, this was a silly exercise in inefficiency. It most certainly detracted from the depth and complexity of the life situations I was attracting. The drama acted like a drug to keep my senses dulled and -- like the beggar in the story -- outwardly focused. The obvious need for a level-headed, logical approach that I always would bring allowed me to remain unaware of my own addiction, hence lack of introspection seemed normal since I was the sane one, at least from one vantage point. The reality is we are what we attract. I was as much a part of the drama as anyone. Had I been more aware, I would have seen this.

"P.A.I.N. -- Pay Attention Inward Now" -- Iyanla Vanzant

Most drama and/or ongoing stories that we tell ourselves are typically a way of dealing with pain. They are the story we are addicted to. The drama is our fix. It is the high that allows us to remain unattached from reality, much like a drug addict or a dry alcoholic.

When confronted with the next drama beginning to unfold, the answer might be to take two steps back and quiet the mind. Focus on your breath for a minute or two. The truth of the interaction will surface, and right action can be taken vs. just any action, or an action derived from an unhealthy pattern of addiction. Most of the time we are fixated by what is in front of us, but in reality the causal effect is built into our brain. A past trauma or life situation that we need to forgive may be the true requisite action for us to be released from this internal loop of action and reaction. Unconsciously, I was hooked on the drama and the resultant opportunity to get my fix. The moral of the story is for us to recall the monk's advice to the beggar. Rather than looking outside ourselves for happiness, joy, money, love, we need to begin to look within. Look inside the box we have been sitting on while here in the natural for the answers. Look inward.

By looking within, we can find our center. From our mental and physical center we can care without becoming a caretaker. One can be responsible to people without becoming responsible for them. The net result is that one no longer needs the stimulation of the recurrent drama. In Eastern philosophy, we are taught to substitute dharma -- spiritual truth -- for the ensuing drama. We begin to see that small is beautiful and less is actually more. We begin to appreciate the subtle, profound beauties that exist all around us. We seek the subtle spark in others and seek to help ignite it.

Next time you are confronted with an opportunity for drama, ask what hidden rewards are there for you. Are you using this crisis as an excuse for not facing something else? Are you ready and willing to change this unhealthy pattern? Is there a person or situation from your past that you need to forgive?

Restructure your life to include more time for personal renewal. Shift your motivation from the energy of anxiety to the energy of joy. Regular exercise and meditation may help produce biochemical changes that will support the new behavior patterns you are creating. Practice quieting your mind. Focus on your breathing and center yourself before entering new life situations. New neuro pathways will be scripted and your life will begin to change.

Many thanks for your "likes" and thoughtful commentary. Your participation is appreciated and your recognition is always honored. Best, Peter

Windows Phone 8 to support multi-core CPUs, HD resolutions, SD cards and NFC

STUB Windows Phone 8 to support multicore CPUs, HD resolutions

Microsoft is on stage at the Windows Phone Developer Summit offering us a bite of what's to come in Windows Phone 8, and one of the tastiest morsels may just be the noticeably more diverse hardware it will support. The new platform won't just support dual-core processors -- it will support as many as 64 cores, should such massively parallel chips come to exist in the platform's lifetime. Also gone is that long-criticized 800 x 480 display resolution ceiling: if phone builders like, they can either opt for the increasingly common 1280 x 720 or a rarer 1280 x 768. A few subtler feature parities are coming with the upgrade, such as NFC for tags and payments as well as a long, long requested support for SD cards beyond the crude initial expansion. All told, Microsoft just brought Windows Phone right up to hardware parity with its biggest rivals, and possibly a bit beyond.

Midwest farm town, transformed by immigration, thrives

BEARDSTOWN, IL (Reuters) - Two years ago, Bozi Kiekie taught English at a university in the Congo. Although he liked his work, he wasn't earning enough to make a good life for his family.

So Kiekie, 44, entered a lottery for one of 55,000 annual visas to enter the United States. When he won a so-called diversity visa, he came to Illinois, where he found a job cutting out hog tongues at the meatpacking plant in Beardstown, a small river town about 200 miles southwest of Chicago.

"Leaving a teaching position and pulling tongues - that's a big gap," said Kiekie, who talks with his wife and three young children by Skype or phone every day. But he said he and the other immigrant workers at Cargill's pork plant - more than 900 of them from 34 countries - are willing to work hard at just about anything for a better life in the United States.

The Cargill plant and the community that depends on it are emblematic of two changes in U.S. immigration. The first is the shift of job-seeking immigrants from big cities like Chicago and New York to rural and suburban areas, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

The second is the crackdown on illegal immigration, primarily affecting workers from Mexico and Central America. Companies looking for legal labor are increasingly hiring workers with diversity visas, offered via a lotto system to countries with low immigration to the U.S. or refugee status from a variety of nations, according to immigration experts.

This has created challenges for small communities like Beardstown, which first had to adapt to one new language - Spanish and a mostly Mexican culture - and now have to deal with dozens of new cultures, said Mark Grey, professor of anthropology at the University of Northern Iowa and director of the Iowa Center for Immigration Leadership and Integration.

"People were screaming for years, 'We want a legal workforce!' They're getting it," Grey said.

20,000 HOGS A DAY

Beardstown, with a population of about 6,000, advertises itself as the home of the "Almanac Trial" courthouse. In 1858, then-Illinois lawyer Abraham Lincoln used an almanac to show that a witness in a murder case was lying about the position of the moon.

The main attraction, however - and main employer - is the Cargill plant, a 430,000-square-foot concrete slaughterhouse that turns almost 20,000 hogs a day into meat. Trucks roll in filled with squealing hogs from surrounding farms; refrigerated trucks leave with meat. On a warm day the smell of manure is staggering.

Inside the plant, workers are assigned to one of two floors. On the "hot floor," where temperatures are over 80 degrees Fahrenheit, they slaughter pigs, burn off their hair, and constantly clean with hot water. Temperatures are kept at about 40F on the "cold floor," where hogs are cut into pieces and wrapped for shipment. About 2,200 workers are there for two shifts a day; a third group of contract workers cleans up the mess at night. Cargill denied a Reuters request to visit the plant.

Cargill is the biggest private company in the United States and the third-largest U.S. meatpacker, shipping meat from Midwestern plants to food distributors around the world.

The Beardstown plant used to be run by Oscar Mayer, which closed it in 1987. Cargill reopened it in 1987 and offered lower wages - $6.50 an hour instead of $8.75, according to a November 2011 report by Faranak Miraftab, a professor of urban and regional planning at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

Lower wages, along with increases in work speed and injuries - a trend in meatpacking plants across the Midwest in the late 1980s - made jobs less attractive for most white skilled workers, according to immigration experts. Turnover at the plant was 72 percent in 1990, according to Cargill.

Wages have since come back: Base salary at the Beardstown plant is now $13.65 an hour, according to workers.

Latino immigrants started coming to Beardstown, once an all-white town settled mostly by Germans, in the 1990s. Immigrants are drawn to Cargill because meatpacking pays better than other available jobs, such as picking crops, and you don't have to speak English to do it.

Cargill recruited the first wave of Latinos, advertising on both sides of the Mexican border, according to Miraftab. Many were already working in the United States when they heard about the company from relatives, according to former and current Cargill workers.

Cargill spokesman Mike Martin said the recruiting information in the University of Illinois study was inaccurate and that the company does not recruit employees from outside the United States or U.S. territories.

"Cargill has never sent mobile recruiters to Mexico to fill positions at its pork processing facilities in the U.S.," he said in an email. "Immigrant employees come to Beardstown based on word-of-mouth passed through immigrant and personal networks because quality jobs are available." When the plant experienced high turnover rates in the late 1990s and early to mid-2000s, he said, "there were some employee recruiting trips within the U.S., to areas of high unemployment ... and its possessions such as Puerto Rico."

Areas where Cargill recruited included Michigan, Texas, Florida and Alaska, Martin said.

Workers who process meat must join the United Food and Commercial Workers Union at Beardstown's Cargill plant as a condition of the job, union officials said. The union has both Hispanic and African representatives.

A ROCKY START

While both native community residents and immigrants agree that most people accept the newcomers, they concede the beginnings were rocky and some problems remain.

When Jesus Lopez, 40, started working in the Cargill plant 20 years ago, graffiti like "KKK is here" and "Go back where you came from" used to cover the lockers.

"It was pretty rough," the Mexican native remembered. He recalls with gratitude how some older white workers protected him and helped him learn the job. Lopez is now a supervisor.

Ricardo Montoya Picazo, 25, who came to Beardstown when he was 7, remembered there was "so much hatred" that Latino children had to be walked to school for their safety.

In a series of controversial, high-profile raids during the Bush administration, federal agents descended on meat plants in the middle of the night, helicopters hovering overhead, to target hundreds of illegals. In 2007 an overnight raid by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 63 illegal workers, all employees of a cleaning contractor, at the Cargill plant.

"The next day they identified about 48 kids without a mom or dad," said Julio Flores, a native of El Salvador who does community outreach for the public schools and is president of the Amigos Unidos committee, an Hispanic cultural and civic group. "We had two Guatemalan soccer teams. Now we don't have any."

Martin, the Cargill spokesman, said its policy is to employ only legal workers. Former workers and community residents said illegals have worked there using false documents but are fired when their identity is found out.

The raids these days are largely silent. Federal immigration officials audit company employment records, in particular "I-9" identification data. In the past five years, ICE nationally has stepped up audits of I-9s from 254 in 2007 to 1,662, so far, in 2012. Criminal arrests of employers have jumped from three in 2005 to 221 last year.

"Because of the silent raids, the major employers, who for years relied predominantly on a Latino workforce, legal and illegal, started recruiting among other marginalized populations," said Grey, who co-wrote a book about the ICE raid on a Postville, Iowa meat plant in 2008 that resulted in 400 arrests.

After the 2007 raid, Cargill sent recruiters to Florida and Puerto Rico to search for workers with residency cards or citizenship, Miraftab said. Puerto Ricans arrived at the plant soon after, along with Cubans.

Africans started coming to the plant 10 years ago, but most have arrived in the past three years, according to Kiekie. In addition to English and French, he speaks three African languages and is the UFCW liaison to African workers. He said there are about 350 Africans from 14 countries. A few are refugees, but the vast majority are here on diversity visas. Most are French-speaking immigrants from Togo and the Congo, and many are highly educated - former doctors, lawyers and teachers.

The diversity visa program, started in 1995, is a lottery for receiving a U.S. residency card, or Green Card. Applicants from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States are selected to vary the population mix. From 2000 to 2010, 216,900 Africans migrated to the U.S. through the program.

TAMALES AND DRIED OKRA

Beardstown public schools now have both Spanish- and French-speaking liaisons for new immigrants. Cargill, which offers English as a second language as well as citizenship classes, communicates with employees in three languages. The Easter service at Beardstown's St. Alexius' Catholic Church had English, Spanish and French choirs.

Beardstown has had it relatively easy: The Cargill community has only had to adapt to two new languages. The meatpacking town of Marshalltown, Iowa, has up to 30 different languages and cultures, according to Grey. Des Moines has 100.

The influx of first Latino and then African immigrants has transformed Beardstown and neighboring Rushville.

In Beardstown's city park, across from the Almanac Courthouse, thousands gathered last month for a Cinco de Mayo celebration, with mariachi bands and costumed schoolchildren performing folk dances. Around the park flew flags from two dozen nations.

Just off the town square is a grocery store that caters to Latino tastes, with tall aluminum tamale steamers and poblano peppers. Spanish-language magazines share space with a copy of "Ingles Para Los Trabajodores" (English for Workers), with useful phrases like "Who is the forelady?" and "Full time?"

In Rushville, at the Passi grocery store, Koku Akoto chats with his customers in French as they purchase West African staples like palm oil, dried okra, groundnut paste, and sardines in tomato sauce. Akoto, a Cargill employee who once worked at a Togo bank, helps his wife, Passi, with the store on weekends.

"It's good to find your food," said one customer, Yawo Ayivi, who once taught French in Togo and now works at Cargill.

Beardstown lost population from 1980 to 2000, from 7,232 to 5,766, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. But it grew from 2000 to 2010, back up to 6,123. Blacks increased from 52 to 360, while the number of Latinos grew from 1,032 to 1,994. The number of whites fell from 5,233 in 2000 to 4,576 in 2010, and from 90.8 percent of the population to 74.7 percent. Smaller Rushville has also seen a spike in the number of minorities.

Both towns are well-kept, with mowed lawns and flowers in the front of brick and frame homes. They lack the forlorn, hollowed-out quality of some other rural Midwest towns that are more troubled by job and population loss. Beardstown Mayor Bob Walters said Latinos bought and fixed up many run-down houses.

Marge Corwin, 62, who owns a Rushville flower and gift shop, thinks diversity is good for the area, both for learning about different cultures and for economic growth.

"There are some people who will never, ever accept it," she said. "But they're dying out."

LEGAL AND ILLEGAL

Different immigration statuses create two distinct ways to be an immigrant in the Beardstown and Rushville communities - legal and trying to adapt to American ways, and illegal and living in fear.

Sister Magdalena Paz, a Mexican native who works with immigrant families at St. Alexius, said many of the newer Hispanic immigrants are working with "borrowed" documents on farms. Paz, who has been in Beardstown for almost a year, said some undocumented Latinos are former teachers and engineers who decided life was too hard in Mexico. "There are no jobs, and everything is very expensive," Paz said through a translator. "The schools are very bad."

She said many families are separated, with wives remaining in Mexico while the men work here. The separations can last for years, and the coming and going of immigrants make it hard to build community.

"My dream would be that in Mexico and other countries they were more fair with their people so they wouldn't have to emigrate," said Paz.

Another problem for illegal immigrants is what happens to their children who are not born here and therefore do not automatically become citizens. Amigos Unidos' Flores sees children, fluent in English, who get top grades only to find out their status will keep them from college.

"They are so mad," he said. "They don't have any reason to stay in school." This problem may be addressed by President Barack Obama's June 15 announcement that illegal immigrants who entered the U.S. as children will not be deported if they meet certain requirements.

BINDING TOGETHER

The African immigrants, too, are often separated from their families. Visa applications and travel costs add up to about $4,000 a person - more than six times the income of a well-paid civil servant in Togo, according to the University of Illinois report.

Kiekie said friends and relatives pay the costs to allow new immigrants to come over, and the new immigrants reimburse them once they earn enough in the United States. The African immigrants formed a Beardstown-Rushville social group to give one another support.

"We talk life, how to integrate into this country, problems we face at work," said Kiekie. He is working on a master's degree to teach French and hopes to bring his wife and children to the U.S. someday.

Kay Brown, a former Beardstown resident who works at a Rushville consignment shop, said she finds the African immigrants "more outgoing" than the Hispanics have been. "I think they're a little more cautious," said Brown of Latino immigrants.

Flores said perceptions may be connected to the novelty factor - the Africans are new, while Latinos have been coming to the U.S. for a long time.

MELTING POT

New immigrants or old, both groups have started blending into the community. Mixed couples - Hispanic and white - are a frequent sight in Beardstown. Trujillo complained that his children don't want to speak Spanish. Atoko wants his children to keep speaking French at home so they don't lose it.

Georgia Degboe, a Congo native who now acts as the French-speaking liaison to immigrant families for the Beardstown public schools, said many African immigrants she knows would like to continue their old occupations in the United States but are blocked by a new language and the difficulty of combining school with working all day.

"Their primary goal is to become a doctor or lawyer again, but that rarely happens," said Degboe, 33, who has a law degree in her native country. "Along the way, people get discouraged."

Degboe didn't. She got her U.S. law degree through a program for foreign students, though she'll need additional training to take the bar exam in Illinois.

Her counterpart doing community outreach at the Beardstown public schools, Maricela Chavez, didn't get discouraged, either. She had taught kindergarten in Mexico. After two years at Cargill, she decided to go back into education. Two of her children are in college, studying to be bilingual teachers.

Many immigrants at meatpacking plants are "the sacrifice generation" - people who know they'll have to work at hard, menial jobs so their children can rise to something else, said Grey of the University of Northern Iowa.

And though Mexican immigration has fallen to a net zero, according to a recent Pew Research Center report, people will continue to flow in from Mexico and other countries, legally or illegally, as long as they find a better life here, working with immigration policies that have not seen any significant change since 1986.

"The global economy includes capital, includes businesses, but does not include workers," said Flores. So workers go where the work is, whatever it takes. "The border for the hungry is going to be broken," he said.
