NORTH CAROLINA: Guilty plea for "cuddleman" who posed as Marine

Posted on July 31, 2012 by admin

A North Carolina man posed as a U.S. Marine stationed at Quantico on online dating sites, then threatened women who declined to send him nude or seductive photographs or other images, authorities said Monday.

James M. Johnson, 29, pleaded guilty to cyberstalking and making interstate threats, according to a statement from the office of U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride. The plea was entered in the Alexandria Division of the Eastern District of Virginia, authorities said. Johnson will face maximum sentences of five years for each count at a sentencing scheduled for Nov. 2.

Johnson admitted to setting up dating profiles using a false name, personal information and photos of a Marine ? often using ?Cuddleman? as his screen name. He contacted at least 11 women in the mid-Atlantic region, urging them to send him photographs or pose in front of an Internet camera.

When they refused, authorities said, he threatened them. ?Johnson told [one] woman that he would ?slit [her] throat and send his friends to kill [her],? court documents state.

The threats, authorities said, at times included sexual assault, killing their children, and the posting of altered photographs of them on pornographic Web sites.

Freddy Adu also scored for the Union (7-10-2), who have won four of their last five games.

Saer Sene gave the Revolution (6-10-5) a 1-0 lead with a 25-yard strike in the 12th minute. It was Sene's team-high ninth goal of the season.

That lead held up until McInerney was taken down in the box and Adu responded with a penalty kick in the 59th minute.

New England dropped to 1-8-2 on the road.

Philadelphia improved to 5-4-1 at home and won its fourth in a row here.

Sullivan, NYPD union head, dies

	Tom Sullivan

Courtesy Lieutenants Benevolent

Tom Sullivan's 'major legacy' is a new building for the union on Peck Slip in Manhattan, said the union's vice president, Louis Turco.

TOM SULLIVAN, a longtime cop and president of the union representing the NYPD?s lieutenants, died Sunday after a long battle with cancer.

Sullivan, 60, of Marine Park, Brooklyn, was a cop for 38 years.

He served as president of the Lieutenants Benevolent Association the last four years.

?Thomas Sullivan served the public as a police officer and his membership as a leader, and he will be remembered for excelling in carrying out both duties,? said NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

Two weeks ago, union officials purchased a new building on Peck Slip in Manhattan to serve as a new headquarters.

?That?s a major legacy for him,? said Louis Turco, vice president of the Lieutenants Benevolent Association.

?He was probably the most caring and thoughtful guy I?ve ever been around,? Turco added.

?He always put other people first. He put his family first, he put the union first, he put the department first.?

Sullivan leaves behind his wife, Marie, and five children.

This New Test Could Reveal Your Cat's Ancestry | Pawesome ...

Bowie cat

For one of my first posts for Pawesome, I wrote about DNA My Dog, an Ontario-based business that does genetic testing on dogs to help breakdown their breed profile. Now cat lovers may be able to enjoy a similar service, thanks to work done by a geneticist at the University of California.

Leslie Lyons, head of UC?s Lyons Feline Genetics Laboratory, says she has developed a test that can determine if your cat?s parents or grandparents were one of the 29 ?major fancy breeds? of cats. She offers the testing by mail for about $120. Here?s how it works:

Lyons? lab isolates the DNA from the swab and tests for specific markers (single nucleotide polymorphisms), which it then uses to generate a profile. This is compared to a database of global cat profiles to see which race it shares the most variants with ? the eight regions that mixed or ?random bred? cats (the most common type) originate from are Western Europe, South Asia, Egypt, Eastern Mediterranean, Arabian Sea, Iran/Iraq, India and East Asia (most breeds hail from the first four locations). Lyons collected most of the cat samples for the database while attending cat shows hosted by the Cat Fanciers? Association (CFA), The International Cat Association (TICA) and others around the globe.

However, if your cat is truly randomly bred, you may not get accurate results or a match to a particular breed. As well, cats outside the United States have heritages that will be harder to trace. On the plus side, if you?ve got a alpaca or yak at home, Lyons? lab will test the genetic heritage of those too.

(AP) ? Peyton Manning's arm strength looks just fine. It's his timing with his new targets that's the biggest question mark facing the four-time MVP as he embarks on his comeback with the Denver Broncos.

Manning doesn't appear bothered by the nerve injury in his neck that led to a series of operations, sapped his power and sidelined the league's most durable active quarterback all of last season.

Ever since he signed with the Broncos on March 20, two weeks after his tearful release from the Indianapolis Colts, Manning has been working hard to refine his rapport and rhythm with his new corps of pass catchers.

He has two old pals from his days in Indianapolis to help him adjust in wide receiver Brandon Stokley and tight end Jacob Tamme.

And he has two of the most promising young receivers in the NFL in third-year pros Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas, the biggest downfield threat he's ever had.

They lead a deep group of players vying to become the next Reggie Wayne or Marvin Harrison in Manning's aerial show.

"We always talk the opportunities are the greatest right now," Decker said. "We have a future Hall of Famer, a guy who's been to the Super Bowl, an All-Pro, someone who wants to win, too. I think as young receivers, we're hungry, we want to make the most of this opportunity and play our best football this year."

Catching Manning's passes is a thrill for a group of guys who loved Tim Tebow's passion but weren't exactly fans of his erratic passing.

Manning is a perfectionist whom running back Lance Ball called a "player-coach," a description Decker finds appropriate because Manning is that rare breed of superstar who makes everyone around him better.

"It's been great. He's definitely a leader," Decker said. "This guy's going to demand the best out of himself and the best out of his teammates. I think a lot of guys respond to that."

Although he put in hours on local high school football fields playing catch with Stokley and Decker, among others, Manning laments that he only had 17 organized offseason practices to adjust to his new team.

So, he was among the most enthusiastic when training camp got here.

"Now, it's fulltime football," Manning said, the relief evident in his voice.

The Broncos, whose workout Friday was interrupted by a nearby lightning strike, will have 17 practices before they open the preseason at Chicago on Aug. 9.

Manning will be padded up Saturday morning for the first time since playing in his 11th Pro Bowl following the 2010 season.

Before last season, the 36-year-old quarterback started all 277 of the Colts games, including playoffs, during his first 13 years in the league.

He's never faced this much doubt about his durability, or, for that matter, his ability.

Coach John Fox swears he's not among those questioning whether Manning will hold up.

"I worry about all of them but not because of any past injury," Fox said.

Manning said his rehab is a work in progress, and he declines to discuss specifics for competitive reasons, but he said his focus right now really is on developing a rhythm with his receivers.

Decker is the one who's spent the most time on the other end of Manning's passes in Denver, and he said he already sees that work paying off.

"I think every chance you get" to catch Manning's throws "it just makes you better down the road," Decker said.

Manning said it's the Broncos' collection of experienced cover cornerbacks ? Champ Bailey and newcomers Drayton Florence and Tracy Porter ? who will really help Denver's young receiving corps blossom.

Although Andre "Bubba" Caldwell has the speed and shifty moves to push for prime playing time, the Broncos are eager to see what kind of years Decker and Thomas can put together with Manning under center.

Neither has been able to put together a complete season in the NFL. Decker shined for two months last season but faded after Tebow took over at quarterback for Kyle Orton. Thomas missed the first half of the season with a torn Achilles tendon and a shattered thumb but was unstoppable down the stretch.

Decker went down with a knee injury early in the Broncos' wild-card playoff game against Pittsburgh, and Thomas stepped up with four catches for 204 yards, including an 80-yard TD catch from Tebow on the first play of overtime.

Thomas had to undergo another operation to remove pins from his left thumb this offseason. So, he was sidelined once again when Manning signed with Denver and immediately began throwing passes to Decker, his new workout buddy.

Thomas insists he wasn't jealous that Decker formed a rapport with Manning sooner than he had the chance to do.

"I basically just wanted to come in healthy and whenever I started, I started," said Thomas, who returned to the field in May and has been doing yoga in hopes it will help him stay healthy for a change.

Thomas has some catching up to do.

"I'm getting to know Demaryius," Manning said. "I think you see that just like me, there's different phases. There's a minicamp/OTA sort of tempo and then there's training camp, preseason, regular season and you hope playoffs. So, I'm looking forward to getting to know all these guys throughout the different phases of a season, and obviously trying to do my part throughout the different phases. But Demaryius is going to play a key role for us this year. I thought he came back in great shape."

Manning may be new to Denver, but he's already a sage in the locker room, fielding a steady stream of queries from cornerbacks curious about how he deciphered a particular defense to receivers pursuing pointers.

"I like being around young players," Manning said. "I mean, they're all young compared to me. Stokley and I were talking, and it's fun being around these guys who are 22, 23. It keeps you kind of feeling young and feeling into it.

"It's humbling at times when they say they enjoy seeing you play on ESPN Classic. That's not exactly what you want to hear. But I do enjoy getting to know these guys, and that part has been fun for me."

Notes: The Broncos were forced to move practice indoors after lightning struck near their Dove Valley complex just minutes into Friday's workout, much to the disappointment of the nearly 3,000 fans on hand. "We were a little disappointed that we weren't able to come back and practice in front of them, but we still had a productive day," LB Joe Mays said. ... Starting S Quinton Carter injured his right hamstring trying to break up a pass from Manning to TE Joel Dreessen and limped off the field at the South Suburban Sports Dome.

Greg Miller on Life as an Expat in Thailand's ... - Holiday Home Times

Greg Miller

The journey of an entrepreneur and restaurateur from San Francisco to Thailand?s northern city of Chiang Mai; meet Greg Miller as he speaks to Holiday Home Times in an exclusive interview about life in this culturally rich city, his blog and what expats can look forward to in Thailand.

The interview?

Please tell us something about your background ? personal and professional.
I had owned and operated small businesses for about 30 years in the United States, primarily a wholesale distribution company and just before leaving America, a Thai restaurant near San Francisco, California.? I am graduate with a BA in business from San Francisco State University.

Tell us something about your blog, the American Expat Chiang Mai Dotcom. What is it all about?
My blog is about the cultural adjustments an American who has relocated to Chiang Mai, Thailand must make.? My premise is that Chiang Mai is a good place for an American to live if he can be flexible and adapt to the big changes in his lifestyle.

When did you decide to settle in Thailand? What went through your mind while taking this decision?
My wife and I were married about 15 years ago.? She is Thai and was living and working in the US, and still owned a condominium in Bangkok.? After our marriage, we would visit Bangkok on holidays and travel about the country.? We decided it was a good place to live and searched out for the most appropriate city for us, and decided on Chiang Mai.? The most important concern for me when considering this permanent move was whether I personally could adapt to the many great changes with living in Thailand, and whether I could handle being separated from my family by a large ocean.? In 2007, my wife and I sold our Bangkok condo and began the construction of our new house in Chiang Mai.? For the next three years or so, we spent about half of our time in Chiang Mai, half back in California.? In 2011, I cut my financial ties to the US and made Thailand my permanent home.

Greg with his wife Tena

Greg with his wife Tena

Is Chiang Mai a major tourist destination? How would you compare it with other tourist destination in Thailand like Phuket, etc?
Chiang Mai is a major tourist destination for those wanting to immerse into Thai culture, history, food, and Buddhism.? It differs from other Thai tourist destinations like Phuket in that it does not have ocean beaches and resorts for solitude designed to provide an escape for vacationers from their busy lives in their home country.? Chiang Mai is the most ?Thai? city, while Phuket and others are the most ?holiday escape? cities.? Also adult night entertainment, especially the unsavory time that is in the beach cities does not exist to any extent in Chiang Mai.

For a visitor coming to Chiang Mai what are the places he can visit and the activities he can participate here?
In Chiang Mai, there are many ?adventure? activities for visitors, such as getting involved in elephant camps, hiking, rafting, exploring and so much more.? The markets in this city are the best in Thailand.? There are also many Buddhist temples and historical sites that are beautiful.? Northern Thai cooking is famous, and there are many cooking schools for visitors, and the art of Thai massage is perfected in Chiang Mai, either to learn or participate in.? There are Muay Thai camps providing lessons throughout the area.? And the scenery surrounding Chiang Mai is beautiful and worth spending time exploring.? It is a visual treat with exotic sounds, smells and feels.

How is the nightlife of Chiang Mai? Where do you ideally hangout during the weekends?
The nightlife in Chiang Mai mainly consists of excellent restaurants and night markets.? The street markets held at night on Saturday and Sunday are not to be missed by the visitor, as they showcase the crafts, art, food and music of Northern Thailand.? There is little in the way of adult entertainment that is infamous in the beach cities of the south.

What about restaurants? Are there any good restaurants/ pubs you can recommend?
In Chiang Mai, there are many restaurants with Northern Thai cuisine that are fantastic.? I recommend to visitors that they go to the Khum Khantoke Dinner Show which offers a great meal and authentic Northern Thai cultural show that is fantastic.? There?s a video of this presentation at:

But besides this, Chiang Mai is full of restaurants of every cuisine of Europe and Asia and other places.? Recommendations are easy to find, and sometimes it is fun to just walk-in to place that looks inviting.? Eating good is one of the major adventures of Chiang Mail.

Do you see a lot of expats settling in Chiang Mai? What is their average age group?
Lots of expats settle into Chiang Mai because of the laid back, relaxed lifestyle is excellent for living a stress-free, healthy life.? I would guess that about 75% of the expats are retired or semi-retired, with most expats here above the age of 50, and many above the age of 60.? The exception is young people looking for an adventurous lifestyle that is available in Chiang Mai, and the many people connected to the international universities in the area.

Is Chiang Mai more of a retirement destination or you get to see young working expats settling here?
There are young people that come here for a limited period of time, usually less than a year, while the more permanent expats are retired and settled in.? For sure there are more retired expats here than younger people.

Greg's house in Chiang Mai

View of Greg?s house in Chiang Mai

What is the current real estate activity in Chiang Mai? Are there good developments/ developers in the area?
Just outside of the city are many gated communities that offer very modern, large homes for sale or rent, while within the city there are many condo apartment buildings.? The housing costs in Chiang Mai are considerably less than in other major Thai destination cities.? My community, called ?Home in Park? is located southwest of the city (about 12 kms), and is one of the better developments in the area.? There are beautiful homes for sale and for rent in our gated community.

Can you name some of the good projects in Chiang Mai?
I?m not being involved in real estate and not looking for another home, so I don?t study the housing developments in the area, but our development, ?Home in Park? is beautiful.? There are other developments neighboring ours that look good from what I can see.

For an expat wanting to retire in Thailand, what are the basic things he should look out for?
A retired expat here should be fairly secure in having enough income to support oneself stress-free.? Beyond that, it is important to learn about the available medical and dental care, and to work out the necessities in maintaining an appropriate visa to live here.? It is also important to have some sort of transportation, either public or personal, so that one can explore what the area can offer.

?

Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, a Theravada Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai

View of the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, a Theravada Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai.

Can you briefly tell our readers the rules of expats wanting settle in Thailand?
Expats living here are primarily on a retirement visa, a work visa or an educational visa.? Each has their own rules, but can be met easily by savvy individuals.? There are services available in the area to assist in handling the necessary documents to acquire an appropriate visa.? Once a visa is provided, expats are required to check in with Thai immigration every 90 days to verify their address, etc.

Also can you please tell us about the rules of expat property ownership in Thailand?
Expats cannot own land in Thailand.? They can own a condo, as it does not directly involve land.? There are some legal ways around this a bit, such as forming a Thai corporation that can own the land for the benefit of the expat.? Legal assistance is good and easily available in Chiang Mai to accomplish that.

Any tips for expats wanting to settle in Thailand in general and Chiang Mai in particular?
Expats in Chiang Mai and the rest of Thailand must be flexible, and not carry the baggage of preconceived notions from their homeland.? It is the Thai style to relax about things, and to keep life as uncomplicated as possible.

Timeline: U.S. policy shifts on Syria in Obama administration

(Reuters) - The uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has changed the course of U.S. policy from one of engagement when President Barack Obama first took office to a call for Assad to step down to increased support for Syrian rebels.

Here are some of the significant moments.

March 7, 2009 - The United States and Syria found "common ground" when U.S. officials Jeffrey Feltman and Dan Shapiro met with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem in the first high-level trip by American officials to Damascus since 2005.

February 16, 2010 - Obama nominated Robert Ford to be the U.S. ambassador to Syria, the first since Washington withdrew its ambassador in 2005 after the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri in Beirut.

February 17, 2010 - Assad held security talks in Damascus with U.S. Under Secretary of State William Burns, after which the U.S. official said he was "hopeful" of progress.

April 8, 2011 - In a statement on the uprising, which began on March 15, Obama called on Assad to halt the "abhorrent violence committed against peaceful protesters."

April 22, 2011 - Obama condemned use of force against demonstrators and called on Assad to "change course now."

April 29, 2011 - United States slaps sanctions on Syria's intelligence agency and two relatives of Assad, in Washington's first concrete steps in response to the crackdown on protests.

July 12, 2011 - Obama sharpened rhetoric against Assad, saying the Syrian president had "lost legitimacy" for failing to lead a democratic transition.

August 11, 2011 - Obama and Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan in a phone call spoke about the violence in Syria and the need for a transition to democracy, the White House said.

August 18, 2011 - For the first time, Obama called for Assad to step down, saying: "For the sake of the Syrian people, the time has come for President Assad to step aside." Britain, France and Germany also called for Assad to step aside.

October 24, 2011 - The United States pulled its ambassador, Robert Ford, out of Syria over threats to his safety.

May 18, 2012 - Group of Eight leaders at Camp David discussed the need for political transition in Syria.

June 18, 2012 - Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Group of 20 summit in Mexico agreed violence in Syria must end but showed no signs of reaching a deal on tougher sanctions against Damascus.

June 22, 2012 - U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta defended the administration's decision to not arm the Syrian rebels, which has been criticized by some Republicans in Congress.

July 18, 2012 - Obama called Putin to discuss the deteriorating situation in Syria after a bombing in Damascus killed members of Assad's inner circle, but the two leaders ended the call divided over the best way forward.

July 19, 2012 - U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice called the Russian and Chinese vetoes of a U.N. Security Council resolution on Syria "dangerous and deplorable."

July 23, 2012 - Obama says Assad will be held accountable if he makes the "tragic mistake" of using Syria's stockpile of chemical weapons.

Michelle Obama greets US athletes in London

LONDON (AP) ? Michelle Obama formally opened her stint as leader of the U.S. Olympics delegation on Friday, attending a breakfast with Olympians and saying she was "just in awe" of their company.

The U.S. first lady mingled with the U.S. athletes afterward, posing for photos, shaking hands and sharing hugs with dozens who had signed up to attend.

"Try to have fun. Try to breathe a little bit," Mrs. Obama said. "But also win, right?"

The first lady had a busy itinerary Friday, including promoting healthy living with more than 1,000 children, a reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace and then the opening ceremony at Olympic Stadium.

She told the U.S. athletes that some of her fondest memories in sports stemmed from watching the Olympics on television. She also shared the story of her father, who was athletic but contracted multiple sclerosis "in the prime of his life."

"He retained his love of sports, truly," Mrs. Obama told the athletes. "And the Olympics was a special time for him to watch amazing athletes of all abilities compete on the world stage."

"Every few years, these games bring pride, excitement and wonder to millions of people around the world. And that must mean so much to all of you," she added.

Later, the first lady met with hundreds of children on the lavish grounds of Winfield House, the official residence of the U.S. ambassador in London.

As the University of Florida Gator marching band paraded and twirled batons, children hurried between sports areas and mingled with athletes.

Soccer hero David Beckham appeared alongside the first lady, Olympic gold-medal sprinter Carl Lewis signed autographs, and ex-NBA star Dikembe Mutombo offered the kids ? most of them from U.S. military families ? tips on basketball.

A former Manchester United goalkeeper and members of the U.S. field hockey and tennis squads also ran training sessions for the children, aged nine to 14.

The event was part of the first lady's "Let's Move!" campaign, aimed at tackling childhood obesity and promoting sports.

"I think this is amazing and what the first lady has done to get kids to move is truly wonderful," said Lewis. "Both she and the president love the Olympics and the Olympic movement."

Student Ethen Duval, originally from Oklahoma, sharpened his skills at the soccer camp.

"I'm looking forward to watching the Olympic soccer," said the 10-year-old, who lives at Lakenheath U.S. Air Force Base in Britain. "I can't wait to watch things with my Dad and see the look on his face when something exciting happens and he says 'Wow!'"

The 46-year-old Mutombo towered above his young pupils, who were eager for the Olympics to begin.

"They are mostly excited about the basketball," he joked.

The breakfast took place at the University of East London, where the U.S. Olympic Committee has established a full training facility that will host hundreds of athletes during the games.

Among the Olympians attending were two-time fencing gold medalist Mariel Zagunis, chosen by U.S. athletes to carry the nation's flag into the opening ceremony, along with the U.S. women's basketball team and members of the track and field squad.

Mrs. Obama appeared with several past U.S. Olympic and Paralympic standouts, including Brandi Chastain, Gabriel Diaz de Leon, Grant Hill, Summer Sanders and Dominique Dawes.

"Being here is otherworldly for me," the first lady said. "I am still so inspired."

On Saturday, Mrs. Obama will meet with Samantha Cameron, the wife of British Prime Minister David Cameron, before watching U.S. athletes on the first full day of Olympic competition. She will see more events Sunday before departing.

Other first ladies who have led recent U.S. Olympic delegations include Hillary Clinton at Lillehammer in 1994 and Laura Bush at Turin in 2006.

Antidepressant ZOLOFT packs potential to fight fungal meningitis

ScienceDaily (July 25, 2012) ? New research conducted by biologists at Texas A&M University suggests that ZOLOFT?, one of the most widely prescribed antidepressants in the world, also packs a potential preventative bonus -- potent mechanisms capable of inhibiting deadly fungal infections.

The findings are the result of a two-year investigation by Xiaorong Lin, assistant professor of biology, and Matthew S. Sachs, professor of biology, involving sertraline hydrocholoride (ZOLOFT) and its effects on Cryptococcus neoformans, the major causative agent of fungal meningitis -- specifically, cryptococcal meningitis, which claims more than half a million lives worldwide each year, according to a 2009 Center for Disease Control (CDC) report.

Their research, funded with grants from the American Heart Association (AHA), the Norman Hackerman Advanced Research Program, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is published in the June issue of the American Society of Microbiology journal Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy. Their research team includes Ph.D. candidate Bing Zhai and postdoctoral fellows Cheng Wu and Linqi Wang.

"The point here is that if there is a drug that already exists, is known to be well-tolerated, and has alternative uses, that's a good thing," Sachs says. "The billion dollars it would take to bring a drug to the market -- that's already done."

C. neoformans is a potentially dangerous fungal pathogen found in many soils throughout the world that may cause systemic infections, particularly involving the central nervous system. In most cases, the microscopic, airborne fungal cells of C. neoformans cause asymptomatic colonization in the lungs. However, Lin says the fungus is particularly aggressive in people with weakened immune systems and can spread to other parts of the body, such as the brain and spinal cord, resulting in cryptococcal meningitis -- a condition that, in absence of treatment, is fatal.

Lin participated in a previous study to screen a collection of FDA-approved drugs in a John Hopkins Clinical Compound Library to determine if any contained fungicidal agents. Although sertraline was shown to only moderately inhibit the effects of common fungal strains like Aspergillus nidulans, a genus of common mold often found on spoiled food, and Candida, a genus of yeast often associated with mammals, sertraline was found to be particularly effective against C. neoformans.

A follow-up investigation of sertraline in a mouse model of systemic cryptococcosis revealed that it combats infection similar to fluconazole, an antifungal drug used commonly since the early 1990s. Moreover, a drug combination of sertraline and fluconazole was found to work more efficiently than either drug alone.

Lin says that even though the infection ultimately proved fatal in the mice study, sertraline as a cryptoccol treatment still holds promise. Because sertraline reduced the overall fungal burden within the mice and also possesses the desirable ability to cross the blood-brain barrier as an antidepressant, there is still hope it can be altered to serve as a viable treatment option.

"The problem for many current antifungal drugs is that many cannot go to the brain, and it's very difficult for a lot of compounds to reach the brain in the first place," Lin says. "So, you run into the problem of not killing all the fungus or having a very low level of fungus still exist. The fact is, this antidepressant can cross the blood-brain barrier and can get into the tissue at high concentrations."

It remains unclear exactly what dosage and concentration of sertraline is necessary to completely eliminate cryptococcosis, especially cryptococcal meningitis, but Lin and Sachs hope those answers will come to light with further testing.

"If this becomes useful, it could represent a truly significant increase in our ability to help people with brain cryptococcal infections," Sachs adds.

Boat Parts - Home-Brew Recipes

Mint, and tarragon and chives are best grown in separate containers as they will stifle any other herbs that marjoram and sage like a sunny spot, while mint, chervil and chives prefer more filtered light. During the spring and summer months all container grown herbs need daily watering as they can dry out in a matter of hours. However, do not be tempted to overwater any herbs. The soil should never become waterlogged. Whatever type of pot you choose, make sure there is a hole in the base for boat parts drainage. Fill in the base with a layer of broken terracotta and then a layer of grit or sand before filling with potting compost. Once the herbs have been planted and watered, raise the container off the ground using wooden battens or clay pot supports to free the drainage holes and prevent clogging.

Frugal Family Tree: Snyder of Berlin Chips 65th Anniversary Snyder ...

Chips are a summer food we always enjoy in my house. This year my son has loved to say "Chips" for some reason the word cracks him up. He will point to the cupboard and ask for chips with his lunch.

We had our chips as a snack during the afternoon while we played video games and watched cartoons. I really enjoyed the plain potato chips too. They had a great crunch and were not greasy. We served some with a clam dip for dinner with steak. It was a hit.

Each month the judges will select one photo entry that will be qualified for inclusion in the final judging of the Snyder SnackShots? Photo Contest. Here's a Press Release (PDF) with some more details.

Eight semifinalists will be chosen: one each month, June 2012 - January 2013, for the final selection among all entries received. Each semifinalist will receive a Snyder of Berlin Party Package of Snyder products. Check back with the Synder of Berlin contest page see the monthly winning photos and for the announcement of the Grand Prize winner.

The Snyder family starts cooking kettle chips in their home kitchen on Centennial Avenue in Hanover, PA.

With a growing reputation, chip operations move to a new brick building at the back of the homestead.

1920s

Edward Snyder II and brother-in-law Barb Sterner work nearly around the clock to keep up with demand.

1930s

William Snyder takes over operations from his father as the company moves into its third generation.

Stock is sold to finance construction of our original 120 x 100 foot building at the East End of town.

October 1946

Sent to learn the chip making operations, Norman Handwerk of Berlin returns from the Hanover plant with surplus machinery that he and his mechanics refurbish for use in the new factory.
