Farmington football wins homecoming game 21-10 against Valencia

FARMINGTON ? The Farmington High football team picked a perfect time to break its two-game losing skid ? homecoming night.
The No. 11 Scorpions defeated No. 16 Valencia 21-10 Friday night at Hutchison Stadium to move to 3-2 overall this season.
Farmington head coach Gary Bradley was never too concerned with where his team was following losses to Miyamura and Durango and knew his guys would get back on the right track.
?We were always OK,? Bradley said. ?We made some adjustments offensively and defensively, and the guys were ready. It was just a matter of cleaning up some things and we were going to be OK.?
After a quiet first half that saw Valencia (0-5) take a 3-0 lead into the locker room, the Scorps answered with two big plays to break the game open in the second half.
Farmington running back Brian Farley got the Scorps on the board with a 51-yard touchdown run just 90 seconds into the third quarter.
?It was wide open down the middle,? Farley said. ?I had two guys I had to beat and I just cut it down the middle. They were leaving the middle open all the time.?
Farley led the Scorps in rushing with 97 yards on seven carries.
Kyle Reynolds pushed lead to 14-3 with a fantastic punt return.
Reynolds broke through about six Jaguar tackles on his way to the end zone 22 seconds into the fourth quarter.
?I was kind of surprised. I saw my guys making a wall, so I cut back and just did my stuff,? Reynolds said.
The Scorpions? big play ability was crucial to the victory.
?You look back on every game, and you usually have about five plays that make a difference,? Bradley said. ?The punt return from Kyle was just amazing. It was fun to watch. It was like slow motion. He should have been down a couple times. We always talk about YAC yards ? yards after contact ? and he got a few on that one. Then Brian hitting it up the middle, he looked good tonight coming back from an injury.?
Running back Essiel Carrasco capped off the Farmington win with a 21-yard touchdown run with just over three minutes left in the game.
Carrasco ran for 65 yards on eight carries.
Valencia finally found the end zone with a minute left on the clock when quarterback Anthony Gonzalez hit wide receiver Andrew Yamamoto on a four-yard touchdown pass.
Gonzalez went 9-18 for 68 yards and a touchdown. He also added 84 yards on 13 carries.
The Jaguars outgained the Scorpions on the ground 203-197.
However, Farmington nearly doubled Valencia?s rushing yards in the second half, 153-78.
The second half defense was key to the Scorpions being able to take control of the game, Reynolds said.
?We game planned for them very well,? he said. ?We knew they ran the option a lot. Our corners came in and made tackles, and our defensive line played well.?
After turning the ball over 16 times in the past two games, Farmington committed just one turnover on the night.
The Scorps will be in action next Friday against St. Pius X in Albuquerque.
The Sartans are 3-1 going into today?s game against No. 2 Los Lunas.
?We got a really good St. Pius team on the road, and we look forward to hitting the road to Albuquerque,? Bradley said. ?We?ll definitely looking forward to playing a really good
St. Pius team.

US court rules Motorola can't enforce German injunction against Microsoft, keeps the Xbox 360s flowing

In another face of the ever turning world of patent battles, Reuters reports Microsoft has snagged a victory over Motorola as the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in its favor today. Motorola had obtained an injunction in Germany against Microsoft products -- including the Xbox 360 and Windows 7 -- based on its h.264 patents back in May, but today the court upheld a previous decision putting enforcement on hold because of Microsoft's existing lawsuit against Moto for breach of contract. Microsoft's push to leverage its patents into licensing payouts from manufacturers of Android devices have seen the two at each other's throats since at least 2010, when the folks from Redmond lodged an ITC complaint over nine patents and followed up with another suit accusing Motorola of charging unfair license fees for its patents. Motorola fired back with its own pair of lawsuits -- all of this a year before we heard it would be acquired by Google -- and the battle was on. Whether or not this moves us any closer to any resolution remains to be seen, but at least Bavarian gaming consoles are safe, for now.
