Apple begins targeting App Store pirates with cease-and desist-letters

According to website Cult of Mac, Cupertino-based Apple has begun to send cease-and-desist letters to websites that facilitate illegal App Store downloads. The naughty bunch.

So, what's the damage?

Well, the letters are reported to have caused popular iPhone hacking online resource Apptrackr to "relocate many of its servers and implement more steps for its users to avoid legal ramifications".

For example, Apptrackr has implemented various CAPTCHA checks for all cracked apps, which allows it to avoid the legal issues associated with hosting direct links to pirated software.

Donations welcome

The website is also attempting to avoid a courtroom battle with The Big A by moving its servers to areas outside of the United States. This, unsurprisingly, can be costly.

Apptrackr has recently introduced advertising on its website to supplement donations from its users.
