If you or your kids manage to damage DVDs from certain studios you can send the damaged discs back to the studio for a replacement copy. Sometimes this is done for free and sometimes a fee is charged.
Disney for example will replace any Walt Disney Pictures, ABC Studios, and Touchstone disc at $6.95 per DVD and $8.95 per Blu Ray while Universal Studios will do so free of charge. In some cases a studio will offer to replace specific movies or TV series that have been known to have problems, such as CBS Studios replacing The Fugitive and StarTrek replacement disks for free.
Another option would be to take advantage of Vudu and Walmart's Disc to Digital plan where you can take DVDs and Blu Rays to any WalMart photo center and pay $2 per disc to have permanent free access to your film on Vudu.com. Not every studio applies, so if you're interested in this option check out the full details. Photo by Roman Soto
