Where did Sony go wrong with PS All Stars Battle Royale?

Did Sony do all the right things with Playstation All Stars Battle Royale? Why didn't a game like this come out last generation? Will the game have the following that SSB has? Will Microsoft ever do something like this? Does the game have enough features?
