Make a Programmable LED Holiday Star Ornament

Make a Programmable LED Holiday Star Ornament If you're looking for a project to put your electronics skills to the test and get your home ready for the holidays consider the animated star project design from UK-based Unusual Electronics.

You'll need a PIC18F2620 controller, 60 LEDs, a circuit board, and miscellaneous electronics parts. Cost should be around $20 total (depending on what kind of deal you can get for the LEDs) and a few hours of your time. You'll wire the LEDs and the controller into a circuit along with two push buttons that will allow changing the light effect without having to reprogram the controllers. To program the controller you'll need a PIC programmer. The developer does not release the ASM source code for the project but HEX files are available.

All in all it seems a festive, moderately-challenging build to both increase your skills and ready your neighborhood for the holiday season.
